Cantate is one of Portsmouth Cathedral’s three choirs and is made up of 20 Girl Choristers alongside the Cathedral Choral Scholars.

Formed in 2006, this versatile and exciting choir opens the way for girls and teenage boys to add their voices to choral worship both in Portsmouth Cathedral, in concerts around the Anglican Diocese of Portsmouth as well as other prestigious venues such as Westminster Abbey, Lambeth Palace, The Royal Albert Hall and Canterbury Cathedral.

Cantate sings Evensong each Thursday at 6pm during term time, in addition to many events in various concert venues. They are involved in the Portsmouth Cathedral’s Sing Up Chorister Outreach Programme and feature on a number of the Cathedral’s recent CDs. The Choir has also performed in the Portsmouth Festivities and broadcast live on BBC Radio 3’s The Choir and Choral Evensong and Radio 4’s Sunday Worship. Last year they sang the Second Sea Lord’s Carol Service on board HMS Victory.

This is the choir’s sixth international tour following successful trips to France, Austria, The Alps, Malta, Italy and Cyprus.

David Price and his wife Kitty visited Iceland as tourists in 2016 and were enchanted by Iceland. Kitty, being partly Danish felt very much at home in the nations climate, traditions and language. On return to England, they quickly started planning bringing one of the choirs that David runs at Portsmouth Cathedral on a singing tour.
